The University of Wyoming Department of Music will host the third annual Boston Brass Summer Intensive Sunday-Saturday, June 18-24.

Boston Brass, world-renowned musicians and recording artists, will perform concerts and teach master classes during the weeklong camp at UW. The week also will include performances by the UW faculty brass ensemble, Snowy Range Brass, and by summer intensive participants.

Snowy Range Brass will perform the opening concert Sunday, June 18, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5. The Boston Brass concert will take place Friday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. The Boston Brass Summer Intensive festival concert, a free event, wraps up the week Saturday, June 24, at 11 a.m. All three concerts will take place in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. For tickets and information, call (307) 766-6666, go to the Performing Arts box office, or visit www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

“These concerts will feature some of the most promising young brass players in the country, including many University of Wyoming students,” says Scott Meredith, UW associate professor of trumpet and Boston Brass Summer Intensive coordinator.

The Boston Brass Summer Intensive is a weeklong session designed around performance and career development for brass players seeking advanced instruction of chamber music, audition preparation and guidance for those aspiring to careers in music performance.

Boston Brass members are Chris Castellanos, horn; Jeff Conner, trumpet; Domingo Pagliuca, trombone; Sam Pilafian, tuba; and Jose Sibaja, trumpet. They will offer their expertise in areas such as career development, audition preparation, maximizing performance, recording and networking. Students will experience performance opportunities in group and master class settings.

Through more than 100 performances each year, the members of Boston Brass play to audiences at concerts, educational venues and jazz festivals. In addition to solo performances, Boston Brass regularly performs with orchestras, bands, organ, jazz bands and a variety of other ensembles. The group has performed in 49 states and 30 countries, and has conducted master classes around the world.

For 31 years, Boston Brass has entertained audiences with classical arrangements, burning jazz standards and the best of the original brass quintet repertoire. The group has been featured on CBS’s “The Early Show,” National Public Radio's “Performance Today” and the Great American Brass Band Festival. The group has recorded several diverse albums.
