Downtown Street Dance Brings Together Community, UW Students Sept. 15

August 28, 2017

Laramie Main Street Alliance will host 2017’s Downtown Mash Up -- an annual event created to bring University of Wyoming students and the Laramie community together -- Friday, Sept. 15, with on-street entertainment, local food and drinks, live music and dancing.

The event, also open to the public, is from 7 p.m.-1 a.m. between Grand Avenue and Second Street. More information is available at and soon on Facebook.

“Laramie Main Street is thrilled to be partnering with UW Athletics again this year to welcome new and returning students downtown for the start of football season,” says Laramie Main Street Executive Director Trey Sherwood. “This year’s street dance will be bigger and better than ever with Oregon fans in town and the Jalan Crossland Band as our headliner.”

This year’s event, held the weekend of the Wyoming Cowboys vs. Oregon Ducks home football game Saturday, Sept. 16, at 5 p.m., features musical headliner Jalan Crossland Band. Other entertainment will be provided by Boogie Woogers, Tie Hack and Party Pros Entertainment. UW alumnus and Las Vegas magician John Rotellini, from Sheridan, will be master of ceremonies and will perform street magic.

“We are excited to partner again this year with Laramie Main Street and the local community for the Downtown Laramie Mash Up. The Mash Up showcases the great things happening in downtown Laramie and provides an opportunity for our coaches and student-athletes to interact with the community,” says Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Branding David Primus. “This year’s event promises to be the largest and most successful Mash Up yet, and we look forward to seeing all the fans downtown Friday evening in advance of Saturday’s big game with Oregon.”

Sherwood says the Downtown Mash Up is to connect with UW students.

“We value our ‘town and gown’ relationship, and hope everyone comes down and has a great time,” she says. “We want the downtown businesses, events and attractions to be a ‘home away from home’ for the students while they are at UW.”

The Downtown Mash Up is Laramie Main Street Alliance’s annual fundraising event. Funds raised support the organization’s mission to preserve historic downtown Laramie while enhancing its economic and social vitality.

Laramie Main Street Alliance is a nonprofit organization.
