Nordberg Awarded UW Staff Employee of Second Quarter

Nick Nordberg

Nick Nordberg has a reputation for helping others outside his official duties as the Rendezvous Café area supervisor on the University of Wyoming campus.

As an example, when he saw some UW students struggling to put up an information booth outside of Rendezvous Café along Prexy’s Pasture, he quickly spotted some workers in the area and asked to borrow tools, which he used to assist the students. Other times, he cheerfully helps assist Ross Hall tenants move heavy objects from the hallway into their respective offices. He then goes back to work in the dining hall.

And, back in his own position, Nordberg is known as a tireless worker, is always cheerful and does a good job supervising his employees to make it a good working environment. All these qualities have earned Nordberg the UW Staff Employee of the Second Quarter award.

He has been working for Residence Life and Dining Services for seven years, and three more as a part-time employee.

“Nick continually is in good spirits, even when the going gets tough. He steps up to the plate and gets the job done. His boisterous and happy demeanor spreads, and is absorbed by others,” a nominator says. “Nick provides a clean and proficient atmosphere, important to the public he and his employees serve. He guides and teaches his employees in a positive manner, and it is apparent to the staff and faculty that enter his establishment.”

“I like my job because the University of Wyoming is such a beautiful campus. I love the fast-paced environment of my work and the numerous customers that we service and interact with on a daily basis,” Nordberg says.

Another nominator says Nordberg has always been positive and helpful in assisting various departmental functions, providing space and arrangements for those events. He has always been conscientious of what is needed, going above and beyond.

“Nick deeply understands the concept of good customer service. He cares deeply about the customers, and it’s also clear that he cares about his staff,” a nominator adds. “He’s made a warm, welcoming and enjoyable place. He’s developed a first-rate menu of food and drinks, but the real highlight is his attitude and the way that his positive approach is echoed by his staff. I am proud to take visitors to the establishment for coffee or lunch because I know that they will receive impressive service and good food/drinks.”

Nordberg adds that it’s his team that has helped him achieve the recognition.

“I would like to thank all Rendezvous Café customers and all of the student employees who have helped me to achieve this award. Without you, this would not be possible,” he adds.

A reception to honor Nordberg will be announced at a later date.

Employee of the Quarter nominees can be any UW staff employee and must receive three nomination forms from three separate individuals. Nominations must be submitted to the Staff Senate office. The forms are on the web at www.uwyo.edu/staffsenate/employee-of-the-quarter.
