University of Wyoming Calendar for Aug. 21

These are among the activities scheduled Aug. 21-27 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Aug. 21 -- Various activities are planned at UW and throughout the state for the solar eclipse.

Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2 p.m. -- A presentation by David Sanders of Purdue University will be hosted by the UW Department of Molecular Biology. The presentation is titled “Ethics of Scientific Publication -- Deficient Institutional Responses.” His talk will take place in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center, Room 138. Free.

Tuesday, Aug. 22, 4 p.m. -- The UW Department of Chemistry presents a lecture by Karl-Heinz Ernst, a researcher at Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology. His presentation will take place in the Classroom Building, Room 118. Free.

Tuesday, Aug. 22, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “This Month's Sky.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Friday, Aug. 25, 4:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. Southern Utah, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Friday, Aug. 25, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. South Dakota, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Friday, Aug. 25, 8 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “The Search for ET.” A free STAR Observatory tour (weather dependent) follows at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Saturday, Aug. 26, 8 a.m. -- The annual household item giveaway for international students attending UW will take place in the parking and circle drive area south of the Cheney International Center. Donations can be dropped off between 7:30-8 a.m.

Saturday, Aug. 26, 10 a.m. -- “Divine Ammunition: The Work of Al Farrow,” a new exhibition, will open at the UW Art Museum. Free.

Saturday, Aug. 26, noon -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Abilene, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Saturday, Aug. 26, 7 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Portland, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Saturday, Aug. 26-Sunday, Aug. 27, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance will present a free vertical dance concert in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Thrust Theatre.

Sunday, Aug. 27, 9 a.m. -- The UW Nordic ski team will host its annual “Trash 2 Treasures” fundraiser in the War Memorial Fieldhouse.

Dinosaur skeletons, ancient mammal fossils and other exhibits are on display in the UW Geological Museum, open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free.

The UW Department of Botany’s Williams Conservatory is open to the public Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free.
