UW Alumni Association Plans Membership Appreciation Day Sept. 16

The University of Wyoming Alumni Association (UWAA) is planning an afternoon of fun, football and friendship to show its appreciation to UWAA members.

Membership Appreciation Day will feature a buffet lunch leading up to the Wyoming Cowboys football game against the Oregon Ducks Saturday, Sept. 16. The lunch will be from 1-2:45 p.m. in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, located at 222 S. 22nd St.

The buffet is free to UWAA members and one guest. A fee of $20 will be charged for each additional guest, and the cost for children 11 and under is $8. Lifetime UWAA members will receive one complimentary drink ticket.

“All members and guests will enjoy the cash bar, NCAA football on big screens and the unique opportunity to build school spirit throughout the afternoon,” says Emily Vernon, UWAA special events coordinator. “UWAA members also will receive a UW pride gift.”

An RSVP is requested by Sept. 12; to register, visit http://wyoalumni.uwyo.edu/uwaa17. A UWAA membership card must be presented to enter the event. For a membership card, download the UWAA App through the App Store or log on to Google Play.

Following the event, members and guests are encouraged to participate in the Pokes pregame pep rally, hosted by the UW Foundation, that will feature UW head football Coach Craig Bohl, Western Thunder Marching Band, UW’s cheer team and the Cowboy walk.

“We are excited to welcome our UWAA members back to Laramie for this historic football weekend as the Cowboys host the Pac 12 powerhouse Oregon Ducks,” says Keener Fry, UWAA executive director. “Our members have made it possible for the UWAA to accomplish our original mission to ‘promote the university interests and the affiliation of its graduates’ for more than 122 years. We are elated to express our gratitude to them at the Membership Appreciation Day lunch.”

UWAA board member Sean Valentine (B.S. ’12, MBA ’13) describes why the event is important for alumni, no matter when they graduated.

“Being a part of the University of Wyoming Alumni Association as a lifetime member gives me the opportunity to embrace the saying ‘once a cowboy, always a cowboy.’ It allows me the opportunity to engage with UW by staying up to date on what is happening on campus and connecting with current students and fellow alumni,” he says. “Most importantly, through this engagement, my passion and excitement for Wyoming and everything that makes it so great and unique are refueled.”

Board President Tim Wilson (B.S. ’98) adds, “With alumni in every county in Wyoming, every state in the U.S. and dozens of countries across the globe, UWAA plays an important role in connecting our alumni back to UW.

“The university has some amazing things going on both on campus and amongst its distinguished alumni, and there is no easier way to spread the word than through our network of 125,000 alumni. If you haven’t reconnected back to UW, better now than never,” he adds.
