SBDC Webinar to Provide Tips to Protect Technology Data Rights

September 20, 2017

Small businesses need to understand their Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) data rights, and how to protect them.

A Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) webinar, titled “How to Protect SBIR/STTR Technology Data Rights,” is scheduled Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 10-11 a.m.

The SBDC is a partnership among the University of Wyoming, the Wyoming Business Council and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBDC focuses on educating small-business owners and potential owners on how to successfully start and operate small businesses. The SBDC’s main office is located at UW.

Becky Aistrup, managing partner of BBC Entrepreneurial Training & Consulting, will present the class. Before joining BBC, Aistrup was the SBIR/STTR program director for the Minnesota Science and Technology Authority. Her professional background includes more than 30 years of experience working in the medical, defense, aerospace, biotech, advanced materials and electronics industries.

This webinar will explore what does and does not constitute SBIR/STTR data; what the government obligations are with regard to handling your data; actions businesses need to take to protect their data rights; how civilian and military protections differ; and how all of this information can be critical to a business’s efforts to move its technology to Phase III commercialization.

There is no charge for this program due to a Federal State and Technology (FAST) grant from the U.S. SBA, but participants must register at www.wyomingsbdc.org to obtain the link to the recorded program.

Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made, if requested at least two weeks in advance. Language assistance services for clients with limited English proficiency will be provided. For more information, call Kelly Haigler-Cornish at (307) 766-2904, or email her at haigler@uwyo.edu.

The Wyoming SBDC Network is a business advising group of the Wyoming SBDC, Procurement Technical Assistance Center, Market Research Center and SBIR/STTR Initiative. The network’s mission is to help Wyoming entrepreneurs succeed. Advising and most market research activities are free of charge to Wyoming residents.

The SBDC is funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. SBA. Additional support is provided by the Wyoming Business Council and UW.
