University of Wyoming Calendar for Sept. 11

These are among the activities scheduled Sept. 11-17 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Sept. 11, 2 p.m. -- The UW Libraries Lecture Series presents Mary Burman, Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing dean. Her talk, “ But I Just Had to Brace Up and Do My Best--Nurses in World War I,” will take place in Coe Library, Room 506. The program also will include musical entertainment and refreshments. Free.

Monday, Sept. 11, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Donald DePaolo, a professor and isotopic geochemist at the University of California-Berkeley. He will discuss “Making Super Eruptions: How magma supply affects volcano evolution” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, Sept. 11, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents a German music concert in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Tuesday, Sept. 12, 3 p.m. -- UW President Laurie Nichols will provide updates on key issues and initiatives, and outline future plans during the UW Fall Convocation in the Wyoming Union Yellowstone Ballroom. Free.

Tuesday, Sept. 12, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “ From Earth to the Universe.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Thursday, Sept. 14, 4 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. Idaho State University, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Thursday, Sept. 14, 7 p.m. -- Studio WYO presents musical groups Wynona and Turvy Organ in the Wyoming Union Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Friday, Sept. 15, 11 a.m. -- A plaque dedication ceremony will be held to honor Lowell O’Bryan, a UW student killed on campus in a freak accident in 1922. The ceremony will take place at the Lowell O’Bryan stone monument, located on the campus walkway leading to Ninth Street and west of the front entrance to Old Main. Free.

Friday, Sept. 15, 3-5 p.m. -- The Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources will host a reception and open house for Dean Melinda Harm Benson at the Bim Kendall House, located at 804 E. Fremont St. Free.

Friday, Sept. 15, 6:30 p.m., 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment will screen “Cars 3” at 6:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., and “Despicable Me 3” at 9 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Free.

Friday, Sept. 15, 7 p.m. -- Laramie Main Street Alliance will host the Downtown Mash Up, an event designed to bring UW students and the Laramie community together. The evening will include on-street entertainment, local food and drinks, live music and dancing. The event will take place between Grand Avenue and Second Street.

Friday, Sept. 15, 8 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “ Future Skies.” A free STAR Observatory tour (weather dependent) follows at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Saturday, Sept. 16, 11 a.m. -- Planetarium show, “ Two Small Pieces of Glass.” Visitors can stay afterward to create their own telescopes. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Saturday, Sept. 16, 5 p.m. -- Cowboy football vs. University of Oregon, War Memorial Stadium. Ticket prices vary.

Sunday, Sept. 17, 5 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series presents the McLin/Campbell Duo in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.
