UW Student Group Hosts Innovation, Entrepreneurship Forum Oct. 8

September 28, 2017

A Mid-Autumn Festival, hosted by the University of Wyoming’s Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), will feature discussions on innovation and entrepreneurship Sunday, Oct. 8.

The ''Mid-Autumn Festival Dialogue: U.S.-China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum” is from 2-8 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Yellowstone Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional harvest festival celebrated by ethnic Chinese people, says Wenyang Lu, a UW chemical engineering doctoral degree candidate and CSSA president.

The forum is to help UW students build a sense of innovation, entrepreneurship and business concepts related to small businesses and high-tech startup companies, Lu says. Invited speakers will discuss their experiences with students interested in creating their own businesses.

Lu says he hopes the event will increase the communication among Wyoming local business owners, venture capitalists and incubators, and UW students and local residents.

“We hope to provide useful information and overall resources to the people who are ready for launching their own startup,” he adds.

A demonstration show session during the event will provide high-tech startup owners an opportunity to introduce participants to their ideals, products, and services, and share their business story based on their own experiences.

Breakout sessions also are planned, followed by panel discussions. A traditional Chinese dinner is scheduled at 5:45 p.m. and is open to 150 guests with a ticket. Free tickets will be available beginning Friday, Sept. 29, after 4 p.m. at the Wyoming Union information desk.

“We believe the Mid-Autumn Festival will be a great opportunity to combine traditional Chinese culture and model business topics together,” Lu says. “Not only UW students, but also most Laramie local residents can benefit from this event.”
