Reduced Shakespeare Company to Perform Nov. 3

A touring American acting troupe that stages fast-paced performances on various topics will bring its brand of entertainment to the next UW Presents program Friday, Nov. 3, and Sunday, Nov. 5, at the University of Wyoming.

“The Reduced Shakespeare Company: William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged),” will be performed Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. in the Thrust Theater in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts.

Tickets cost $20 for the public, $17 for seniors and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Wyoming Union information desk and the Performing Arts box office, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

“William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged)” is a comic misadventure that feels strangely familiar, yet excitingly new. In this “tale told by idiots,” the company weaves all of the Bard’s famous characters, greatest lines and magnificent speeches in a Shakespearean smorgasbord. The production is making its way to Laramie before a grand opening at the New Victory Theatre in New York City next spring.

The Reduced Shakespeare Company (RSC) is a three-man comedy troupe that takes long, serious subjects and reduces them to short, sharp comedies. The “Bad Boys of Abridgment” have created 10 stage shows, two television specials, several failed TV pilots and numerous radio pieces -- all of which have been performed, seen and heard around the world, according to the troupe’s website.

The company's style has been described as "new vaudeville," combining both physical and verbal humor, as well as highbrow and lowbrow comedy.

The RSC has created 10 stage shows, including the scheduled UW production: “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)” in 1987; “The Complete History of America (abridged)” in 1992; “The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged)” in 1995; “The Complete Millennium Musical (abridged)” in 1998; “All the Great Books (abridged)” in 2002; “Completely Hollywood (abridged)” in 2005; "The Complete World of Sports (abridged)" in 2010; “The Ultimate Christmas Show (abridged)” in 2011; and “The Complete History of Comedy (abridged)” in 2013.

The company tours most frequently across the U.S. and Great Britain, and also has performed in Belgium, Holland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Singapore, Barbados, Bermuda, Israel, Qatar and Ireland.
