“The Opening” is the theme for the University of Wyoming Collegiate Chorale’s popular candlelight concert Wednesday, Dec. 6, and Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Cathedral.

Tickets cost $10.50 for the public; $7.50 for senior citizens, faculty and staff; and $6.50 for students. Tickets are available at the Wyoming Union information desk and the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office, by calling (307) 766-6666, or going online at

Because the popular holiday concert is always a sellout, people are urged to purchase tickets early. Seating is general admission, with doors opening at 7 p.m.

The select choir is directed by UW Department of Music Associate Professor Nicole Lamartine and accompanied on piano by Lisa Rickard. Guitarist Jeff Selden, UW Department of Mathematics and Statistics lecturer, also will join the choir during the concert.

“This season brings opportunity for sharing, giving, healing, peace and strengthening community; and the program, ‘The Opening,’ includes a variety of music to highlight these themes,” Lamartine says. “Music from many spiritual traditions serves to connect the program, and members of the choir offer their own poetry.”

The graduating seniors from the ensemble are featured on a medieval carol, “In Dulci Jubilo,” and student conductor Hannah Egbert will lead “Stars I Shall Find.” The ensemble will present a rarely performed work by Arvo Part, “An dem Wassern zu Babel,” a minimalist piece with organ.

Rickard will offer piano improvisations on well-known carols as preconcert music. Following tradition, the concert concludes with candlelight illuminating the church, with all attendees singing the holiday classic “Silent Night.”
