Starting today (Monday), people can explore key University of Wyoming facilities and hear from UW students about campus life without stepping foot on university grounds.

UW’s new YouVisit virtual tour -- which can be found on the university’s home page at www.uwyo.edu -- allows anyone interested in UW to tour the university on his or her computer or smartphone. The experience includes commentary from student tour guides, 360-degree photos and video, and a variety of supplementary photos and video.

“There’s nothing like visiting UW firsthand to see the beauty of our campus and our incredible, world-class facilities, but that isn’t easy for everyone to do,” says Chad Baldwin, UW’s associate vice president for marketing and communications. “Our new virtual tour isn’t exactly the same as an actual visit, but it comes pretty close. It will give thousands of interested students and families the opportunity to experience the places and resources that make UW one of the great universities in the Rocky Mountain West.”

The tour has a short introductory video, then starts at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, UW’s new, state-of-the-art welcoming center. There are stops at the Visual Arts Building, Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts, Fraternity/Sorority Row, Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center, Prexy’s Pasture, the Geological Museum, the Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility, the Energy Innovation Center, the Wyoming Union, Coe Library, the College of Business Building, Washakie Dining Center and the athletics complex.

Each stop on the virtual tour provides additional information, photos and videos.

“There is no way to cover every part of campus in a virtual tour, but this experience will give users a good look at our new, spectacular buildings, along with some historical features and the beautiful UW landscape,” Baldwin says. “As new facilities are completed in coming years, we will be able to add those to the tour.”

The virtual tour was created by UW Institutional Marketing and the immersive technology company YouVisit, with the cooperation and support of many units on campus, including the Office of Admissions, the Department of Athletics, Residence Life and Dining Services, and the Office of the President.

Anyone with questions about the virtual tour is invited to contact Baldwin at (307) 766-2929 or cbaldwin@uwyo.edu.
