High flying, precision tumbling, somersaulting and gymnastics will be featured during the Peking Acrobats’ performance at the University of Wyoming Tuesday, Feb 6.

The Peking Acrobats will perform their crowd-pleasing act at 7:30 p.m. in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. This event has been moved up to earlier in the week; it originally was scheduled Feb. 10. UW Presents, formerly UW Cultural Programs, co-sponsors the event with Laramie’s Studio Thrive.

“With daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs and arts the likes of trick cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, somersaulting and gymnastics, the Peking Acrobats have redefined audience perceptions of Chinese acrobatics for the last 31 years,” UW Presents Director Janelle Fletcher says.

Tickets cost $20 for the public; $17 for seniors, faculty and staff; $10 for students; and $40 for a family of four. Tickets are available at the Wyoming Union information desk and the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

“We’d be happy to find you seats for what promises to be a show like none other -- something your family will talk about for weeks, but we don’t recommend trying it at home,” Fletcher jokingly says.

This Chinese group has been featured on several ABC and NBC television shows, and also in the films “Oceans 11,” “12” and “13.” The troupe also set the world record for the human chair stack. The Peking Acrobats are known internationally for their performances.

“We found ourselves in the fortunate situation of the group having a date open on its tour, and, therefore, we were offered this rare opportunity to present a group that has a history of incredible performances with daring feats across the world,” Fletcher says. “It’s a fun group to lead off our spring 2018 season.”

Each year, UW Presents brings a variety of internationally known performers to campus, often at ticket prices much less than at larger venues. Each season usually features five performances during the fall semester and five more during the spring semester. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. in either the Performing Arts concert hall or the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.

“Following the acrobats, we have acts such as Daniela Liebman, a 16-year-old pianist from Mexico; The Bad Plus, one of the most well-known and renowned jazz groups in the country; and ‘Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood: Scared Scriptless,’ an act everyone will know simply because Colin and Brad played so many years on television on ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway.’ They are just so darn funny,” Fletcher says. “Tickets for that show are selling rapidly -- don’t wait.”
