University of Wyoming Calendar for Feb. 5

These are among the activities scheduled Feb. 5-11 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Feb. 5, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Michael D’Emic, an assistant professor of biology at Adelphi University. He will discuss “Evolution of Growth and Longevity in Dinosaurs on the Line to Birds” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 6, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Shaochen Huang, a doctoral student in the division, and Daniel Davis, an undergraduate student in the division. Huang will discuss “The Baseline mTBI Screening Test on Club Sport Athletes,” and Davis will discuss “Musculoskeletal Modeling: Attempting to Predict Quadriceps Strengths by Developing Subject-Specific Models.” Both presentations will be in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 6, 5:30 p.m. -- The UW Geological Museum and the Biodiversity Institute present the annual Darwin Days Public Lecture featuring paleontologist Michael D’Emic. He will discuss the growth of dinosaurs in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center auditorium. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 6, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “Distant Worlds - Alien Life?” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Tuesday, Feb. 6, 7:30 p.m. -- The Peking Acrobats will perform in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. UW Presents and Laramie’s Studio Thrive co-sponsor the event. Tickets cost $20 for the public; $17 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; $10 for students; and $40 for a family of four. Wednesday, Feb. 7, noon-12:30 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators,” an informal gallery walk-through with museum curators and special guests. February’s event will feature “Indian Country: The Art of David Bradley.” Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 7, 5:30-7 p.m. -- A reception for the Laramie Audubon Society art show will take place in the Berry Center. Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 7, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. Utah State, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Wednesday, Feb. 7, 8 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment presents funk and soul band Dirty Revival in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Feb. 8, 7 p.m. -- Studio WYO presents musical artists Big O and Captain Nerk in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Friday, Feb. 9, 11 a.m. -- The Rev. Warren Robinson, pastor of Owen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Alamogordo, N.M., will discuss “Reflections on Equity and Service Fifty Years after the 1968 Civil Rights Act.” His talk will take place in the Wyoming Union Family Room. The UW Committee on Women and People of Color, UW’s Social Justice Research Center and the National Science Foundation sponsor his visit. Lunch will be available. Free.

Friday, Feb. 9, 12:10 p.m. -- The Spring 2018 School of Energy Resources Faculty Speaker Series presents Steve Carpenter, director of UW’s Enhanced Oil Recovery Institute. Carpenter will discuss the activities and research of the institute. His talk will be in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Friday, Feb. 9, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment’s Films Committee will screen “Loving Vincent” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Feb. 9, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “Discovering the Cosmos.” A free STAR Observatory tour (weather dependent) follows at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement.
