The University of Wyoming Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony will kick off UW’s Festival of Winds Thursday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.
Tickets cost $10 for the public; $7 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Wyoming Union information desk and the Performing Arts box office, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.
The “Wind Dancing” concert will feature UW’s two top concert bands: the Symphonic Band, conducted by Bryan Raya, associate director of bands, with guest conductor Herbert Herrera; and the Wind Symphony, conducted by Robert Belser, director of bands.
Concert repertory will include “Amparito Roca March,” by Jaime Texidor; “Satiric Dances,” by Norman Dello Joio; “Armenian Dances,” by Alfred Reed; and “Suite” from “MASS,” by Leonard Bernstein, featuring the UW Faculty Brass Quintet -- Scott Meredith and Josh Lundquist, trumpets; Katherine Smith, horn; Dan Watts, trombone; and Alan Harvey, tuba.
An annual event, UW’s Festival of Winds provides select high school students from a tri-state area with the opportunity to attend concerts by UW ensembles; participate in classes led by the UW wind and percussion studies faculty; interact with UW music majors; and perform in an honor band concert, which will conclude the festival Saturday, Feb. 24.
