University of Wyoming Calendar for March 19

These are among the activities scheduled March 19-25 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, March 19, 3 p.m. -- UW Department of Anthropology Professor Todd Surovell will present “Studying the Present to Learn About the Past: Gender and Space Among Mongolia’s Reindeer Herders” in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. A reception will follow the lecture. Free.

Monday, March 19, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Marine Denolle, an assistant professor of earth and planetary sciences at Harvard University. The lecture will be in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, March 19, 6:30-8:30 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host a gallery walk-through featuring student award winners from the 43rd annual Juried UW Student Exhibition. Free.

Tuesday, March 20, 6 p.m. -- Comedian Kristina Wong will perform in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. The Service, Leadership and Community Engagement office sponsors the show. Free.

Tuesday, March 20, 6 p.m. -- The UW Department of English and Coe Library will present sci-fi film “The Lobster” in Coe Library, Room 123. Space is limited. To RSVP, email Patrick Moore at pmoore13@uwyo.edu. Free.

Tuesday, March 20, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “From Earth to the Universe.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Thursday, March 22, 3:30 p.m. -- The UW American Heritage Center (AHC) presents Sarah Stanford-McIntyre, a cultural and environmental historian. She is the 2017-18 Bernard Majewski Fellow at the AHC and a UW history instructor. She will discuss “The 1980s Texas Oil Crisis and Changing Public Perceptions of Industry Contamination.” Free.

Thursday, March 22, 4 p.m. -- The UW Speaker Series in the Spatial Sciences presents David Uttal, a professor of psychology and education at Northwestern University. He will discuss “Spatial Thinking and STEM Learning: When, why, and how?” in the Classroom Building, Room 214. A reception will follow. Free.

Thursday, March 22, 5 p.m. -- Cheryl Strayed, the best-selling author of the memoir “Wild,” will be at UW for a public lecture and book signing. The lecture will be in the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Doors will open at 4 p.m. Free and open to the public.

Thursday, March 22, 5 p.m. -- UW’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success will show a rebroadcast of a talk by Scott Hamilton, an Olympic gold medalist in figure skating. The event will be in the UW Classroom Building, Room 118. Free.

Thursday, March 22, 5:30 p.m. -- Ecologist Daniel Reinhart will give a presentation on “Whitebark Pine Conservation and Management in the U.S. Northern Rocky Mountains” in the UW Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center. A reception will follow. The UW Biodiversity Institute and the Rocky Mountain Herbarium sponsor the event. Free.

Thursday, March 22, 7:30 p.m. -- Jazz trio The Bad Plus will perform in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall, sponsored by UW Presents and the UW Department of Music’s Jazz Studies. Tickets cost $17 for the public; $14 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; and $10 for students. Friday, March 23, 12:10 p.m. -- The School of Energy Resources Faculty Speaker Series presents Rob Godby, director of the Center for Energy Economics and Public Policy. The lecture will be in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Friday, March 23, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will present “Ingrid Goes West” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. This film is rated R. Free.

Friday, March 23, 8 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “Beyond the Edge of Infinity.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Saturday, March 24, 8:30 a.m. -- The Gardening for Pollinators workshop will provide information for selecting and growing flowering plants that will look great in a garden and give pollinators a helping hand.
