UW Center for Global Studies Conference Highlights International Research

International research by University of Wyoming students and faculty highlights the UW Center for Global Studies (CGS) Conference Monday, March 26. The conference is free and open to the public.

Through interdisciplinary international projects, CGS helps UW researchers identify solutions to complex global problems, says Jean Garrison, CGS director.

“This year, we included a roundtable discussion and panel to connect diverse perceptions on international careers and policy,” she says.

The “Wyoming Goes Global International Careers Panel” begins at 3 p.m., and “Panel on American Foreign Policy in the Trump Era” is at 4:10 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Center Ballroom.

“Wyoming Goes Global” presentations begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a reception that includes a poster session, and an announcement of the 2018 CGS faculty and student grant award winners beginning at 7 p.m.

The panel on international careers features:

-- Moderator Mark Jenkins, senior fellow with UW’s Center for Global Studies and National Geographic correspondent.

-- Former Assocated Students of UW President Megan Degenfelder, Wyoming Department of Education chief policy adviser who formerly worked in government affairs for Cloud Peak Energy.

-- Matthias Jung, CEO of Rocky Mountain International, a small business specialized in international travel and tourism promotion for the Rocky Mountain region.

-- Margaret McKeown, 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals judge.

-- Sarah Robinson, education abroad adviser with UW’s Global Engagement office.

-- Laurent Roux, founder and CEO of Gallatin Wealth Management.

“Panel on American Foreign Policy in the Trump Era” panelists are:

-- Moderator Stephanie Anderson, professor and head of UW’s School of Politics, Public Affairs and International Studies.

-- Ret. Maj. Gen. Donald Alston, senior fellow at the Potomac Foundation and former commander of the 20th Air Force Global Strike Command, and commander of Task Force 214, U.S. Strategic Command at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base.

-- Jean Garrison, professor and director of UW’s Center for Global Studies.

-- Ambassador Gary Grappo, distinguished fellow of the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies, former ambassador to Oman and UW senior visiting scholar of global studies during the 2016-17 academic year.

-- Ambassador Marc Wall, former ambassador to Chad and UW senior visiting scholar of Global Studies during the 2013-14 academic year.
