Search Planned for UW College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dean

A national search is planned for the position of dean of the University of Wyoming College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, as longtime Dean Frank Galey has announced his retirement from UW effective June 30.

Galey has accepted the job of provost and executive vice president of Utah State University (USU).

While planning for a search takes place, UW Provost Kate Miller says she is working to sort out the composition of an interim leadership team for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources that will be put into place no later than July 1.

“UW is deeply indebted to Dean Galey for his many years of service to the university,” Miller says. “We wish him well. The move to USU is an exciting opportunity for him.”

Galey came to UW in 1999 as the director of the Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory and head of the Department of Veterinary Sciences. He was named dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in fall of 2001.

He received his B.S. and D.V.M. degrees in veterinary medicine at Colorado State University, and a Ph.D. in veterinary biosciences (pharmacology and toxicology) from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

“I will work diligently to lead the college and work closely with the provost’s office in leading as smooth a transition as possible until my retirement,” Galey says. “I am proud of the many accomplishments that the college has made over the past 16-plus years that I have had the privilege to serve as dean.”
