Steven LeBlanc, of Cheyenne, was among four finalists for the 2018 Tobin Memorial Award as the University of Wyoming’s outstanding graduating man.

The annual award is based on academic excellence and achievement, service to the university, participation and leadership in the community and campus activities, and citizenship qualities. He is the son of Robert LeBlanc.

Gabe Selting, of Laramie, received the Tobin Award, while Sophia Kwende, of Cameroon, was named the Rosemarie Martha Spitaleri Award recipient as the outstanding graduating woman during a recent ceremony honoring all the nominees.

LeBlanc will graduate with a degree in anthropology and a minor in Chinese. He says his volunteer work at UW has shaped him into who he is today.

“Being a student here at the University of Wyoming for the past two years has been a privilege -- one that I continuously remind myself to be grateful for every day,” says LeBlanc. “UW has provided me with many opportunities to better myself and the communities I have involved myself with for the past two years.”

A nominator acknowledges LeBlanc’s ability to quickly pick up material and sees his interest in learning to be remarkable.

“Steven always comes to class ready to engage and aids his fellow classmates with material that is difficult,” the nominator says. “Steven is very diverse and adapts well to different environments, cultures and situations.”

Another nominator has seen LeBlanc shine and finds him a knowledgeable individual.

“Steven has an impressive track record and history of academic achievement, civic engagement and leadership,” the nominator says. “He is a young man rooted in his sense of humility and brings human-centered principles to all he does and to all others with whom he interacts. He is a wonderful individual, a successful student and an impassioned believer in others.”

LeBlanc wants to become a Foreign Service officer after graduation, according to a nominator.
