UW Nordic Ski Team’s Trash 2 Treasures Project Underway

May 9, 2018

Members of the University of Wyoming’s Nordic ski team are collecting unwanted items from students, faculty, staff and Laramie community members as part of the club’s annual Trash 2 Treasures fundraiser and community project.

Collected items will be sold to incoming and returning students in the fall. Possible donated items include: furniture, small refrigerators, microwaves, lamps, rugs and other household items. No old TVs, stoves or large refrigerators will be accepted.

“The Trash 2 Treasures project is a great way to get rid of any unwanted items without throwing them away and building up our landfill,” says Christi Boggs, UW Nordic ski team co-head coach. “This is a win-win situation for the donor, the environment and buyer.”

Those with items to donate can schedule a pickup time at

Nordic ski team members will clean all donated items and store them throughout the summer to sell Saturday, Aug. 25, in War Memorial Fieldhouse.

The sale will offer students an opportunity to furnish their residence hall rooms, homes or apartments at an affordable cost, Boggs says. Any items that are not sold will be donated to charity organizations in the Laramie community.

All proceeds from the sale will help fund the Nordic ski team’s travel to various competitions.

Trash 2 Treasures is sponsored by the UW Nordic ski team, the Sustainability Club at UW, UW Residence Life and Dining Services’ “Don’t Dump. Donate.” campaign, UW SLCE (Service, Leadership and Community Engagement) office, the Clothing Cottage, Goodwill of Wyoming and SNOW (Skiers Nordic of Wyoming).
