Campus Construction Update for July 8

These are among the construction activities scheduled July 8-14 at the University of Wyoming:

Core Campus Steam Shutdown (UW Operations) -- The annual campus steam shutdown will begin Monday, July 16, and will continue through Aug. 20. Most campus buildings between 22nd and Ninth streets, and Ivinson and Lewis streets will not have hot water or steam during the shutdown. A portable boiler located north of Washakie Dining Hall will remain on-site until Aug. 20.

Science Initiative Building (Site clearing and demolition contractor Stonehouse Inc., Laramie; summer/fall 2018) -- Franchise utility disconnects and relocations are in progress and will conclude by the end of July. Asbestos abatement in multiple buildings is in progress. The parking lot at 10th and Lewis streets is permanently closed. The site will be fenced and secured the week of July 16. Please do not park in any of the residential areas or parking lots. Demolition activities will start in July. Please observe all construction signs, site fencing, overhead hazards and construction traffic.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Casper; spring 2019) -- Installation of the stone veneer; exterior and interior metal stud framing, drywall and paint; mechanical/electrical/plumbing rough-ins; elevator commissioning; and roofing are all underway. Site utilities, landscape walls and rough grading are all in progress. Eleventh Street will be closed to traffic in both directions for the duration of the project. The ADA sidewalk ramp on the southeast corner of the Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility will be closed through July 31 for utility tie-ins. ADA access is still available on the southwest ramp, and no exterior building doors will be blocked. Please steer clear of heavy equipment, overhead conveying and delivery trucks parked on city streets. Please observe all construction signs.

Education Annex (July 10-17) -- Furniture and two vending machines may be in the hallways on the second floor while Rooms 223, 225, 227 and 229 are being re-carpeted. Please be cautious in the area.

Old Main (Marshall Contracting; July 2018) -- The remodel of the President’s Suite is ongoing. Painting, carpeting, lighting, electrical routing, various finishing tasks, moving and cleaning are expected to occur intermittently until July 14. The contractor has established a HEPA-equipped negative pressure enclosure at the entrance of the suite in an effort to mitigate dust and odor dispersion to other locations in Old Main. There will be heavy foot traffic along the main stairwell between the President’s Suite and the east entrance. Please use caution near crews and equipment.

Education Lab School (UW Operations) -- Painting began in June to start renovating the Lab School. Construction in Room 120 to create a new wall began June 11. Asbestos abatement in different areas began June 25 and will continue throughout the summer. Please be aware of the ongoing work, and use caution in these areas.

Merica Hall (May-July 2018) -- Interior painting and carpet replacement on the first and second floors are ongoing. Please use caution around the construction crew.

McWhinnie Hall (UW Operations) -- Moving and construction began in Room 100 June 22. Please use caution in this area, as some items may occupy the hallway while crews are working.

Knight Hall (UW Operations; July 2018) -- Work has begun at the southwest entrance to reconstruct the flower planters and repair the exterior foyer ceiling plaster and deck area. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

Central Energy Plant (CEP) (Arcon Inc., Laramie; July 2018) -- Construction fence is set up around the work area for replacement of the condensate tank at CEP. The sidewalk on the west side of 19th Street may be closed; the street will be blocked occasionally. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Knight Hall (Big Huhnks Excavation; May 22-July 13) -- Replacement of sod after the sewer repair will begin. Some concrete replacement also may occur. Please be cautious around these crews.

White Hall (UW Structural Trades, July 2018) -- Patching and painting will be done on the exterior soffit areas on northeast and southeast soffit locations. A new insulated door will be added in the south stairwell. Please use caution around work activities, and observe all construction signs.

Health Sciences Building (Laramie Heating and Sheet Metal, Laramie; July 2018) -- The contractor is replacing two dampers and actuators in the corridor. There will be some noise and dust. Please use caution around crews.

Downey Hall (UW Structural Trades; July 2018) -- Initial phases of east-side soffit modifications and insulation addition, and access to add heat to the west-side soffit are underway, weather permitting. A new insulated door will be added in the east stairwell. Please use caution around work activities, and observe signs around the construction area.

Information Technology Building (Arcon Inc.; August 2018) -- Exterior work is ongoing for a new chiller installation on the south side of the IT Building. Ivinson Street by the building may be temporarily blocked during normal business hours. Additionally, interior work continues on the southeast side of the building. Work crews will be transporting large equipment. Use caution around work crews.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; June 2018) -- Within the existing facility, interior finishes are wrapping up. All access to and egress from the Rochelle Athletics Center will be limited to the south entry doors. Construction of the north entry is underway. Traffic control, signs and barricades will be in place at the building interior and exterior during this process. Please use caution when near the project, and observe all construction signs.

Ross Hall (UW Operations, Structural Trades) -- Construction is complete on phase one of the second floor of Ross Hall. Phase two in the east wing of the basement has begun. The area will be closed until the end of July. Please be cautious near the crews, and observe all posted closure notifications.

Business Building (UW Structural Trades) -- The UW Paint Shop has begun painting the hallways in the College of Business. Please use caution around crews. 

Arena-Auditorium Steam Tunnel (UW Operations) -- Welding and plumbing crews began demolition and installation of new steel piping in the Arena-Auditorium tunnel west to the main tunnel June 27. Work will last several weeks. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in this area.

Physical Sciences Building Third Floor, WWAMI Cadaver Lab (Arcon Inc., Laramie; summer 2018) -- Office and lab space move-in is complete with punch-list work ongoing. Casework installation in locker rooms is underway. Equipment deliveries and touch-up work, including painting, will continue to occur for the next few weeks.

Wyoming Union Third Floor, Veterans Services Center (Shepard Construction; summer 2018) -- Demolition and reconstruction will continue on the third floor through August. Painting is ongoing through mid-July. The south end of the west wing will be impacted primarily by the noise for the next few weeks. Exterior project staging is on the southwest side of the Wyoming Union. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

Washakie Temporary Boiler (UW Operations; summer 2018) -- Crews will be installing barricades and fencing for the temporary boiler, which is located in the southwest corner of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. The boiler will remain in place until the campus steam shutdown is complete for summer. Please use caution around the equipment in this area.

Agriculture and Engineering Buildings (Summit Sealants, Montrose, Colo.; July 2018) -- Painting, caulking and minor repairs to the exteriors of Agriculture and Engineering will be ongoing through the summer, as weather permits.

Physical Sciences Building (MSI; May 29-Aug. 20) -- The area between the Physical Sciences and Health Sciences buildings will be closed for storm sewer work. Please be cautious around equipment and crews. See attached map.

Classroom Building, Biological and Physical Sciences Buildings (MSI) -- The sidewalk east of the Classroom Building between Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences will be closed for a month due to the storm sewer renovations. See attached map.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (UW Operations) -- The plumbing shop welding crew will be installing new control valves and piping to the rooftop unit No. 4 for a few weeks beginning June 22. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in this area.

1316 E. Lewis St. (UW Operations) -- Crews will be repairing damaged sidewalk underdrain. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Sigma Phi Epsilon (Big Horn Roofing; July 2018) -- The low slope roof on the south side will be reroofed. Please use caution around work crews.

American Heritage Center (Simon Construction; August 2018) -- The parking lot will be closed for repairs starting July 9-20. Please use the Visual Arts Building parking lot. Visitor parking also will be located in the Visual Arts Building parking lot.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (Knife River; August 2018) -- The south parking lot will be closed July 9-27. Please use the 17th Street entrance and exit.

Crane Parking Lot (Knife River; August 2018) -- The east parking lot will be closed July 9-27. Please use the 17th Street entrance and exit.

University Office Annex (Simon Construction; August 2018) -- The parking lot will be closed starting July 9-20. Please use street parking.

High Altitude Performance Center (Wyoming Signs; August 2018) -- There will be monument sign construction by the south entrance. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

West Side of 22nd Street from the Gateway Center and North to Willett Drive (Triple A Building Services; August 2018) -- Landscaping will be updated. Please use caution around work crews and equipment.

Physical Sciences Building (UW Operations) -- Welding crews will be re-piping and installing new control valves for the heat system. This will take place in the basement mechanical room starting July 6 for approximately a month and a half. Please use caution around the work crew.

Corbett Pool (UW Operations) -- Crews will be working on the biannual maintenance to the pool area. The pool will be drained and closed July 18-Aug. 24. Please use caution in the pool area.

Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center Pool and Spa (UW Operations) -- Crews will be making repairs to the mechanical room and in the pool area. The pool and spa will be drained and closed from July 16-Aug. 24. Please use caution in the pool area.

West Side of 22nd Street from the Gateway Center to Willett Drive; Willett Drive North of Indoor Practice Facility (IPF) until Arena, South of IPF; and Stadium Parking Lot (Trident Electric LLC, Voltech Electric, ARCON Inc.; August 2018) -- New exterior lighting poles and fixtures along the sidewalks will be installed, and existing pole heads in the parking lot will be replaced. Please use caution around work crews and equipment.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts and the College of Law (Big Huhnks and The Plumbing Co.) -- The road between the parking lots of the College of Law and the east side of Fine Arts will be closed for underground utility work the weeks of July 9 and July 16. Please be cautious in this area. See attached map.

Energy Innovation Center (EIC), Earth Sciences Building (Big Huhnks and The Plumbing Co.) -- The sidewalk area around the loading dock of EIC, Earth Sciences and half of the street will be closed for underground utility work during the weeks of July 9 and July 16. Please use caution in these areas. See attached map.

Health Sciences Building-South Wing Fourth Floor, WWAMI Classroom (Arcon Inc., Laramie; summer 2018) -- Work on this phase of the project is scheduled to begin July 16, primarily in Rooms 457, 459 and 460 in the south wing of the fourth floor. Demolition work is scheduled to occur through early August, with temporary impacts to additional spaces on the third and fourth floors.

The following project is complete:

Engineering Building (UW Operations, Electrical Shop) -- Transformer replacements for old Engineering have been completed.
