Campus Construction Update for Aug. 19

These are among the construction activities scheduled Aug. 19-25 at the University of Wyoming:

Campus Steam Shutdown (UW Operations) -- The annual campus steam shutdown will be complete Monday, Aug. 20, with steam restored by 4:30 p.m. A portable boiler located north of Washakie Dining Hall will be removed by 8 a.m. Aug. 22. Parking will remain limited in the area of the trailer until it is removed.

Agriculture and Engineering Buildings (Summit Sealants, Montrose, Colo.; August 2018) -- Painting, caulking and minor repairs to the exteriors of Agriculture and Engineering will be ongoing through the summer, as weather permits.

Animal Science/Molecular Biology Building (Simon Contractors, Cheyenne; August 2018) -- The parking lot will be closed through Friday, Aug. 24, for repairs. Please use caution around equipment and crews.

Arena-Auditorium (Arcon Inc., Laramie; August 2018) -- Concrete repairs will be ongoing on the west side of the building. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

Centennial Complex (Commercial Flooring, Cheyenne; August 2018) -- Flooring removal and replacement will begin on the ground floor of the American Heritage Center in the administrative offices, security office and coat closet. Please use caution around work crews.

Central Energy Plant (CEP) (Arcon Inc., Laramie; August 2018) -- Construction of a shelter to cover the condensate tank at the CEP began Aug. 1. Construction fence is set up around the work area. The sidewalk on the west side of 19th Street may be closed; the street will be blocked occasionally. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Classroom Building, Between Biological and Physical Sciences (Mechanical Systems Inc., Cheyenne; August 2018) -- Work in this area is substantially complete. The sidewalk east of the Classroom Building is open to pedestrian traffic but will remain closed to vehicular traffic through Aug. 24 to allow adequate time for the concrete to cure.  

Corbett Pool (UW Operations) -- Crews will be working on the biannual maintenance to the pool area. The pool is closed July 18-Aug. 24. Please use caution in the pool area.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Casper; spring 2019) -- Installation of the stone veneer; exterior and interior metal stud framing, drywall and paint; mechanical/electrical/plumbing rough-ins; elevator commissioning; and roofing are all underway. Site utilities, landscape walls and rough grading are all in progress. Eleventh Street will be closed to traffic in both directions for the duration of the project. The ADA sidewalk ramp on the southeast corner of the Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility will be closed through Aug. 29 for utility tie-ins. ADA access is still available on the southwest ramp, and no exterior building doors will be blocked. Please steer clear of heavy equipment, overhead conveying and delivery trucks parked on city streets. Please observe all construction signs.  

Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center (UW Operations) -- Work on the west-facing entrance is underway for a complete door replacement. The entrance is closed for demolition, and gym users are encouraged to use the south entrance until work is completed. Loud noise is possible in the area as construction takes place. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center Pool and Spa (UW Operations) -- Crews will make repairs to the mechanical room and in the pool area. The pool and spa will be drained and closed from July 16-Aug. 24. Please use caution in the pool area.

Health Sciences/Pharmacy Building (Big Horn Roofing, Laramie; August 2018) -- Work is ongoing to replace sections of the roof. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

Health Sciences Building-South Wing Fourth Floor, WWAMI Classroom (Arcon Inc., Laramie; fall 2018) -- Demolition and reconstruction will continue in the south wing of the fourth floor through November. Demolition work is scheduled to occur through early August, with temporary impacts to additional spaces on the third and fourth floors. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

McWhinnie Hall (Colorado Hazard Control, Denver, Colo.; August 2018) -- Abatement is nearing completion in Room 100 and adjoining offices. Please use caution in this area.

Office Annex (Commercial Flooring, Cheyenne, and Cowboy Moving & Storage, Laramie; August 2018) -- Work will begin to re-carpet the main lobby floor and office 128A beginning the week of Aug. 20. Please be cautious of crews in the work area.

Old Main (UW Operations; August 2018) -- Remodeling of Suite 318 of Old Main is underway. Remaining task items include carpeting, moving and cleaning. The work will continue until Aug. 29. The contractor has established a HEPA-equipped negative pressure enclosure at the entrance of the suite in an effort to mitigate dust and odor dispersion to other locations of Old Main during construction. There will be heavy foot traffic along the main stairwell from ground level to the third floor. Storage for the project will be staged at the northeast corner of the building, near the dumpsters for the facility. Please use caution near crews and equipment.

Old Pike Lot on Sorority Row (Knife River, Cheyenne; August 2018) -- Work is ongoing to install new walkways and landscaping. Please use caution around equipment and working crews.

Physical Sciences Building (Mechanical Systems Inc., Cheyenne; August 2018) -- Storm sewer work in the area between the Physical Sciences and Health Sciences buildings is nearing completion. It is now open to foot traffic but still closed to vehicle traffic at this time.

Ross Hall (Colorado Hazard Control, Denver, Colo., and Commercial Flooring, Laramie; August 2018) -- Abatement operations are nearing completion.  Carpet installation is scheduled to begin and will be complete the week of Aug. 20.  Please use caution in this area.

Science Initiative Building (Site clearing and demolition contractor Stonehouse Inc., Laramie; summer/fall 2018) -- Franchise utility disconnects are complete. Asbestos abatement in multiple buildings is in progress. The parking lot at 10th and Lewis streets is permanently closed. Please do not park in any of the residential areas or parking lots. Please observe all construction signs, site fencing, overhead hazards and construction traffic.

Willett Drive and 22nd Street (Triple A Building Services, Powell; August 2018) -- Updates to landscaping in this area will be ongoing. Please use caution around work crews and equipment.

Willett Drive and 22nd Street/Ford Stadium Parking Lot (Trident Electric, Laramie; August 2018) -- Installation of lights is scheduled to be complete by Aug. 17. Restoration of disturbed landscaping will begin the week of Aug. 20 along Willett Drive and 22nd Street. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

Wyoming Hall, McWhinnie, Education and Education Annex Parking Lots (Simon Contractors, Cheyenne; August 2018) -- Work to resurface and stripe the parking lots is scheduled to be complete by Aug. 20. Please use caution in the area, and observe all traffic control until the lot is fully reopened.

Wyoming Union, Student Visit Day Center (Marshall Contracting, Laramie; summer 2018) -- Construction of walls outside the Copy and Print Center will occur through the beginning of the fall semester. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

Wyoming Union Third Floor, Veterans Services Center (Shepard Construction, Rawlins; summer 2018) -- Demolition and reconstruction will continue on the third floor through August. Painting is ongoing through mid-August. The south end of the west wing will be impacted by the noise for the next few weeks. Exterior project staging is on the southwest side of the Wyoming Union. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

The following projects are complete:

Arena-Auditorium (The Plumbing Co. and Big Huhnks Excavation, Laramie; August 2018) -- Repairs to the northeast sidewalk are complete.

Campus Steam Distribution System (CHC; August 2018) -- Abatement of pipe fittings throughout the tunnel system on the northwest campus is complete.
