University of Wyoming Calendar for Aug. 27

These are among the activities scheduled Aug. 27-Sept. 2 at the University of Wyoming:

Tuesday, Aug. 28, 3:30 p.m. -- The New Student Convocation for all UW first-year and transfer students will take place in the Arena-Auditorium.

Tuesday, Aug. 28, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium full-dome movie, “From Earth to the Universe.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Aug. 29 -- Fall semester classes begin.

Wednesday, Aug. 29, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. -- The Recognized Student Organization Club and Organization Fair will take place on Prexy’s Pasture.

Wednesday, Aug. 29, 5-7 p.m. -- The Welcome BBQ for UW students will be held on Prexy’s Pasture. Live music will be provided by Trout Steak Revival and special guest Chain Station. Outdoor games and prizes also will be available.

Thursday, Aug. 30, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO presents bands Forlorn Strangers and Whiskey Slaps in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Friday, Aug. 31, 4-5:30 p.m. -- The UW Alumni Association will host a Kickoff Friday event at the Alumni Center in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. The event will include light appetizers and a cash bar.

Friday, Aug. 31, 7 p.m. -- The Cowboy Kickoff Concert will feature award-winning duo Brothers Osborne. The Cadillac Three will open the concert in the Arena-Auditorium. For ticket information, go to www.gowyo.com/cowboykickoff.

Friday, Aug. 31, 8 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “Astronomy Mythbusters.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Saturday, Sept. 1, 1:30 p.m. -- Cowboy football vs. Washington State University, War Memorial Stadium. Ticket prices vary.

A variety of exhibitions can be seen at the UW Art Museum in the Centennial Complex, 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie. The museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Free.

Dinosaur skeletons, ancient mammal fossils and other exhibits are on display in the UW Geological Museum. The museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free.

The UW Department of Botany’s Williams Conservatory is open to the public Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free.
