Navigating Difficult Situations More Effectively Topic of UW Workshop Sept. 27

The first of two workshops on how to navigate difficult, triggering situations more effectively is scheduled Thursday, Sept. 27, at the University of Wyoming.

Kathy Obear’s Virtual Institutes’ “Navigating Difficult Situations, Part 1” is from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Wyoming Union East Ballroom. The virtual program is open to the campus community and is sponsored by the UW Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and co-sponsored by the Social Justice Research Center.

To register, go to www.uwyo.edu/diversity/registration-virtual-institute.html.

According to her website, Obear is an “expert in helping to establish socially just environments where everyone feels like a valued and respected member.”

The program will:

-- Effectively engage attendees during triggering moments.

-- Cultivate a stronger understanding of personal hot buttons for individuals.

-- Build team relationships by discussing common triggers in the workplace.

-- Develop more proactive strategies to successfully navigate triggering situations.

“This is an excellent opportunity to gain the tools, resources and frameworks your organization needs to de-escalate those difficult workplace situations before they spiral out of control and undermine productivity, erode relationships and decrease morale,” says Emily Monago, UW’s chief diversity officer.

Part two of the program is Thursday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Wyoming Union West Ballroom.

For more information, call the UW Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at 766-6672.
