Renowned saxophonist Claude Delangle will perform Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

Delangle will offer a master class Thursday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m., also in the Performing Arts recital hall. Both events are free and open to the public.

Delangle is considered to be one of the greatest contemporary saxophonists. He has performed with the Paris-based Ensemble Intercontemporain since 1986. He also has appeared as a soloist with multiple orchestras, including the London BBC and Radio France orchestras, and the Berlin Philharmonic.

“International saxophonist Claude Delangle is one of the most important musicians of his generation and a master of the saxophone,” says Scott Turpen, UW Department of Music chair. “His position as professor of saxophone at the Paris Conservatory was first held by the inventor of the saxophone himself, Adolphe Sax, in the 19th century.”

Delangle’s recordings for BIS, Deutsche Grammophon, Harmonia Mundi, Erato and Verany showcase French music while presenting new and unique styles.

Delangle goes beyond the work of a soloist and researches specific acoustics of the saxophone at the Musical Acoustic Laboratories at the University of Paris.

“We are honored to have Professor Delangle on the UW campus to perform and work with our students in a master class,” Turpen says.
