SBDC Offers Lander Workshop to Help Entrepreneurs Start Their Own Businesses

Small-business entrepreneurs in Wyoming looking to start their own businesses can receive a basic overview of what the process entails.

The Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers a workshop, titled “Start Your Own Business,” Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 6-8 p.m. at Central Wyoming College (CWC) in Lander.

The SBDC is a partnership among the University of Wyoming, the Wyoming Business Council and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBDC focuses on educating small-business owners and potential owners on how to successfully start and operate small businesses. The SBDC’s main office is located at UW.

This workshop will explore the pros and cons of owning a business, and evaluate the skills and knowledge necessary for success. This workshop will cover testing the feasibility of a business idea; identifying target markets; financing options; and creating a business plan.

Sarah Hamlin, Wyoming SDBC Network regional director, will present. Hamlin has a marketing and operations background with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver; an MBA from Colorado State University; and a certificate in social media marketing from State University of New York-Plattsburgh. In addition to general one-on-one business advising, Hamlin specializes in social media and digital marketing.

This program is free for Wyoming residents, but preregistration is appreciated. To reserve a spot, email the CWC Lander team at landercenter@cwc.edu or call (307) 855-2330. For more information, visit the events section of the Wyoming SBDC Network website at www.wyomingsbdc.org.

Wyoming SBDC Network programs and services are available to the public on a nondiscriminatory basis. Reasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities, if requested at least two weeks in advance. For clients with limited English proficiency, language assistance services are available. For more information, call the SBDC at (307) 382-0947.

The Wyoming SBDC Network is a business-advising group of the Wyoming SBDC, the Procurement Technical Assistance Center, Market Research Center and the Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer Initiative. The network’s mission is to help Wyoming entrepreneurs succeed. Advising and most market research activities are free of charge to Wyoming residents.

The SBDC is funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. SBA. Additional support is provided by the Wyoming Business Council and UW.
