A moving installation to remember murdered University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard is now on display at Coe Library. The installation will be moved in various UW venues in coming weeks.

The local on-campus sponsorship of the Matthew Shepard Foundation's Heart Challenge is part of the 20th memorial of Shepard’s death and the founding of the foundation. The Matthew Shepard Memorial Group committee is sponsoring monthlong remembrance events on campus and in the community.

The memorial piece is a white picket fence with yellow and green colors. People wore those same colors on armbands when Shepard, a UW student from Casper, was murdered in 1998.

“Help spread love, erase hate and remind other LGBTQ+ folks that they have allies by challenging someone you know to cut out a heart, write a message and place it on the fence,” says a statement from the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

Listed is the schedule of the Heart Challenge fence installation and locations on campus:

-- Oct. 8-15: Coe Library.

-- Oct. 16-18: Washakie Dining Center.

-- Oct. 19-21: Coe Library.

-- Oct. 22-26: Wyoming Union breezeway.

-- Oct. 27-Nov. 10: TBA.
