Award-winning author, journalist and three-time Ucross resident Suki Kim will speak at the University of Wyoming Thursday, Oct. 11.

Kim is the only writer ever to have lived undercover in North Korea for immersive journalism, documented in her best-selling nonfiction book, “Without You, There Is No Us: Undercover Among the Sons of North Korea’s Elite.” Her first novel, “The Interpreter,” won the PEN Open Book Award and was a runner-up for the PEN/Hemingway Award.

The title of Kim’s talk is "Undercover in North Korea." A highly anticipated article by Kim will appear in the November issue of The New Republic.

Thursday’s event, co-presented by Ucross and UW, will take place from 6-7 p.m. in Room 170 of the College of Law Building. The talk is open to the public at no charge, and light refreshments will be provided. Copies of Kim’s book will be available for purchase and signing immediately following her talk.

UW partners in the event are the MFA Creative Writing Program and the School of Culture, Gender and Social Justice.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to discuss my time undercover in North Korea at the University of Wyoming,” Kim says. “I’m wrapping up my third stay at the Ucross Foundation, so the High Plains have practically become a second home for me -- and definitely one of my favorite places to write.”

Kim’s articles and essays appear regularly in the New York Times, Washington Post, Harper’s Magazine and The New Republic, where she is a contributing editor. She has been featured around the world, and her TED Talk has drawn millions of viewers.
