UW Pokes Vote to Offer Voter Education Events

Pokes Vote, a University of Wyoming voter education program, will offer several events to inform the UW community about political candidates and to get college-aged students engaged in their democratic community by voting.

Pokes Vote is a nonpartisan campaign at UW that focuses on maximizing student engagement and leadership development through voter education, registration and turnout. UW’s Service, Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE) office sponsors the program.

Events are free and open to UW students, faculty and staff members.

The schedule of events is as follows:

-- Thursday, Oct. 11, noon, Wyoming Union Family Room: UW Student Legal Services will give a presentation about voting rights. Lunch will be provided.

-- Wednesday, Oct. 17, noon, UW Art Museum: Local and state political candidates will be available to visit with during a meet-and-greet session. Lunch will be provided.

-- Wednesday, Oct. 24, 6 p.m., UW Art Museum: The SLCE office and the UW Art Museum will co-host the People’s Supper, an event that aims to repair poor interpersonal relationships across political, ideological and identity differences, leading to more civil discourse. Dinner will be provided.

-- Thursday, Oct. 25, 5:15 p.m., College of Arts and Sciences auditorium: Wyoming gubernatorial candidates will participate in a debate.

-- Thursday, Nov. 1, 7 p.m., The Gardens: Pokes Vote and StudioWYO will host a mashup event in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Attendees can fill out commit to vote cards.

-- Tuesday, Nov. 6, 7 p.m., Wyoming Union, lower level: Pokes Vote will host an Election Day watch party. The event will include door prizes and free food.
