UW’s Casper Start-Up Challenge Pitch Day Nov. 15

October 4, 2018

Five Casper entrepreneurs will pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges during the Casper Start-Up Challenge Pitch Day Thursday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m. at The Lyric, located at 230 W. Yellowstone in Casper.

The five finalists will each make a 20-minute presentation, followed by questions from the judges. The public is invited to attend. The top three teams receive a $5,000 award and an opportunity to apply to a $50,000 seed fund for working capital. A reception at The Lyric will follow the announcement of the winning teams.

“We also will have a $500 audience choice award that will be determined 100 percent by the audience,” says Jerad Stack, director of the Casper Area Wyoming Technology Business Center (WTBC). “So, I encourage everyone to come down, vote for your favorite company, and support these entrepreneurs.”

The WTBC is a business development program of the University of Wyoming with business incubators in Laramie, Casper and Sheridan. Administered by the UW Office of Research and Economic Development, the WTBC is a not-for-profit business incubator that provides entrepreneurs with the expertise, networks and tools necessary for success.

The businesses and entrepreneurs named finalists for the 2018 Casper Start-Up Challenge are:

-- Barnwood Bros., Adam Jackson.

-- 307 Kitchen, Cassandra Baker and Jamie Purcell.

-- Livestock Wx, Chad McNutt.

-- Simple Injection, Matt Kull.

-- Wyoming Gear Builders, Cameron Siplon.

The judging panel includes Brook Kaufman, CEO of Visit Casper; Charles Walsh, president/CEO of the Casper Area Economic Development Alliance (CAEDA)/Forward Casper and co-founder of Breakthrough 307; Nicholas Grooms, shareholder of Grooms & Harkins PC; Samantha Benton, vice president/commercial loan officer at First Interstate Bank; Shawn Houck, founder and CEO of Adbay.com; and Tim Kugler, former Wells Fargo regional president for Wyoming.

Sponsored by CAEDA/Forward Casper, the John P. Ellbogen Foundation, Oil City News, First Interstate Bank and WIDC Frontier CDC, the Casper Start-Up Challenge is designed to encourage and stimulate more entrepreneurial activity in the Casper area.

“It was an incredible response from Casper,” Stack says. “The variety of submissions we received from this community was astounding and really showed the entrepreneurial spirit Casper has.”

The WTBC was launched to improve the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Wyoming and encourage the development of more high-growth companies within the state and offers comprehensive business consulting as well as programs designed to stimulate new business activity.
