University of Wyoming Calendar for Dec. 3

These are among the activities scheduled Dec. 3-9 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Dec. 3, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Bob Howell, a professor in the department. Howell will discuss “Infrared Observations of Planetary and Terrestrial Volcanism” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Tuesday, Dec. 4, 4-6 p.m. -- UW President Laurie Nichols and her husband, Tim, will host a holiday open house at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. A variety of holiday treats and activities will be available. Free.

Tuesday, Dec. 4, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl basketball vs. University of Denver, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Tuesday, Dec. 4, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “This Month’s Sky.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Dec. 5, 12:10-12:50 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators,” an informal gallery walk-through. Marianne Eileen Wardle, director of the UW Art Museum, will lead the conversation. Lunch will be provided following the gallery walk-through. Free.

Wednesday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. University of South Carolina, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Wednesday, Dec. 5, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Happy Jacks will perform in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Free.

Thursday, Dec. 6-Saturday, Dec. 8, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance presents its rendition of “The Nutcracker” in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Tickets cost $16 for the public, $13 for senior citizens and $8 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Thursday, Dec. 6, and Friday, Dec. 7, 6-8 p.m. -- The UW Fashion Club will host a silent auction in the Artisans Gallery, located at 215 S. Second St. in Laramie.

Friday, Dec. 7, all day -- Cowboy and Cowgirl track and field teams host the Power Meet, War Memorial Fieldhouse. Free.

Friday, Dec. 7, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology Fall Seminar Series presents Charles Jules de Raedt. He will discuss “The Mystery that was Jules De Raedt: a Non-Christian Humanist Anthropologist, Among Other Things” in the UW Department of Anthropology, Room 150. Free.

Friday, Dec. 7, 6 p.m. -- A reception for Ashley Miller and Garrid Halsey, UW student artists, will be in the Visual Arts Building, THIS and THAT galleries. Free.

Friday, Dec. 7, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “Brilliant Horizons.” The STAR Observatory on the rooftop of the Physical Sciences Building will be open from 8-9:30 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Friday, Dec. 7, 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “Leprechaun” at 9 p.m. and “Sharknado” at 11 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Saturday, Dec. 8, 11 a.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “Tycho to the Moon.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Sunday, Dec. 9, noon-4 p.m. -- The University Women’s Club presents the Holiday Home Tour. Tickets cost $20 and are available at Ace Hardware, located at 611 Grand Ave. in Laramie.

Sunday, Dec. 9, 2 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance presents its rendition of “The Nutcracker” in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Tickets cost $16 for the public, $13 for senior citizens and $8 for students.
