Casper Area WTBC to Co

Innovation, experimentation and collaboration will be the focus of the annual Global Game Jam event hosted by Bison Kings Games and the University of Wyoming’s Wyoming Technology Business Center (WTBC) in Casper Jan. 25-27.

Game Jam is a worldwide video game design challenge, spanning a 48-hour weekend. Programmers, designers, artists and musicians across the world will practice their skills to collaboratively build games in a short time period.

Hobbyists and professionals will convene Friday, Jan. 25, at the Casper Area WTBC to kick off the video game design event. Registration will be open until 6 p.m. Jan. 25. Those interested can register online or find more information at https://wyominggamedevs.github.io/global-game-jam/. There will be a streaming keynote video, and the secret theme of the event will be announced at 5 p.m.

The Global Game Jam is the world's largest game jam event (game creation) taking place around the world at physical locations. It has been described as a hackathon focused on game development. Thousands of participants will begin the daunting process of programming, designing, writing and creating video games from scratch in the spirit of learning and cooperation. In 2018, the Global Game Jam included 803 locations in 108 countries and the creation of 8,606 games in one weekend.

The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games while, at the same time, exploring the process of development -- be it programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression. It is all condensed into a 48-hour development cycle. The Global Game Jam encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity.
