A Cody attorney and mediator who holds two degrees from the University of Wyoming has been named to the UW Board of Trustees.

Brad Bonner was appointed by Gov. Mark Gordon and approved by the Wyoming Senate. He succeeds Dave Bostrom, of Worland, whose term has expired.

Reappointed to the board were Chairman Dave True, of Casper; Wava Tully, of Lusk; and Macey Moore, of Douglas. Their terms, and that of Bonner, extend through 2025.

Also reappointed was Laura Schmid-Pizzato, of Rock Springs, who was tapped by then-Gov. Matt Mead to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of John MacPherson last year. Her term extends through 2023.

Bonner, who was born and raised in Powell, earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from UW in 1987 and a law degree from the UW College of Law in 1992. His father, Dave Bonner, served on the Board of Trustees from 1989-2001.

“I’m thrilled and humbled to be appointed to the UW Board of Trustees and so appreciative of Governor Gordon for considering me,” Bonner says. “I’ve had a lifelong love affair with the University of Wyoming. UW is a world-class institution, and one of the best things about it is that it remains affordable for students. I’m eager to help UW continue to grow and innovate, and I greatly look forward to serving.”

Bonner has served on the board of directors for the Northwest College Foundation and for First Bank of Wyoming. From 2008-2013, he was appointed by the Wyoming Supreme Court to the Board of Law Examiners, the board that writes and grades the Wyoming Bar Exam. In 2014-15, he was president of the Wyoming State Bar. He’s a member of the UW College of Law advisory board.

He and his wife, Yancy, have three children.

Appointed by the governor with consent of the Wyoming State Senate, the UW Board of Trustees consists of 12 members appointed to six-year, staggered terms. As the institution’s governing body, the trustees have a broad range of responsibilities, including major policy and budgetary matters affecting the university.
