UW Creates International Advisory Council

The University of Wyoming soon will convene a new council to advise the university on all aspects of its strategy of comprehensive internationalization.

The International Advisory Council (IAC) will supersede all existing committees and advisory boards associated with UW’s Global Engagement Office (GEO). The International Board of Advisors, International Steering Committee, Center for Global Studies Advisory Board and other related groups will be streamlined into the IAC and its five standing committees.

“Our hope is to promote greater efficiency across GEO, boost campuswide communication and continue building our internal and external stakeholder network,” says Anthony Ogden, associate vice provost for global engagement. He’ll serve as the IAC ex-officio co-chair and appoint its members, subject to approval of Provost Kate Miller.

In addition to the provost and AVP for global engagement, members of the IAC will include:

-- At least two deans/directors.

-- One representative of the Division of Student Affairs, appointed by the vice president for student affairs.

-- One representative of the Office of Research and Economic Development, appointed by the vice president for research and economic development.

-- One representative of the Office of General Counsel.

-- A representative each from the Faculty Senate, Staff Senate and Associated Students of UW and/or the International Students’ Association.

-- Four external members representing alumni, governmental affairs, the business community, retired faculty and other constituencies.

The second co-chair will be appointed by the provost.

Ogden invites expressions of interest from people who would like to serve on the IAC or one of its standing committees via email to IAC secretary Shawn Bunning, shawnb@uwyo.edu.

In addition to the primary function of providing advice and recommendations to UW on internationalization strategies and activities, the IAC members will advance the university’s international partnerships and programmatic objectives by facilitating external contacts and networking, and providing material support, as they are able. The group will meet at least once each semester, either in person or online.

The IAC’s standing committees will address student and scholar mobility; international research and engagement; international health, safety and security; advancement and outreach; and curriculum internationalization.
