University of Wyoming Calendar for April 22

These are among the activities scheduled April 22-28 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, April 22, 9 a.m. -- The Wyoming Center on Aging, based at UW, hosts a health workshop for people with chronic health conditions and their friends, family and caregivers. The workshop will be at the Eppson Center for Seniors, located at 1560 N. Third St. in Laramie. Free.

Monday, April 22, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Katharina Pfaff, a research assistant professor at Colorado School of Mines. She will discuss “Automated Mineralogy and Other Micro-Analytical Techniques: Valuable Research Tools in Igneous Petrology and Economic Geology Research” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Tuesday, April 23, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Lauren Gilbert, an assistant research scientist at the Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center at UW. She will discuss “The Opioid Crisis in Wyoming: What We Know and What We Are Doing to Address the Problem.” The talk will take place in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, April 23, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium full-dome movie, “Dawn of the Space Age.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, April 24, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. -- UW’s Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing will host its annual Research and Scholarship Day in the Wyoming Union Family Room. The Whitney Distinguished Lecturer is Joel Dulaigh, chief of staff at the Office of the Surgeon General. Free.

Wednesday, April 24, 4:30 p.m. -- Up-and-coming author Stephen Markley will read from and answer questions about his newest book, “Ohio,” in the McMurry Reading Room in Coe Library. Free.

Wednesday, April 24, 8 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Club Events Committee hosts Australian singer-songwriter RY X in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, April 25, 12:45-4:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology will host “The Work of Storytelling: Theory, Practice, Play, Persuasion.” The workshop will take place in the American Heritage Center’s Stock Growers Room. Thursday, April 25, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Faculty Senate Speaker Series presents Michael Dillon, an associate professor in the UW Department of Zoology and Physiology, and director of the UW-National Park Service Research Station. He will discuss “A bug’s life at extremes: How the humble bee thrives from deserts to mountain tops.” His talk will take place in the Classroom Building, Room 133. Free.

Thursday, April 25, 5 p.m. -- Erika Doss, a professor of American Studies at the University of Notre Dame, will discuss “Troubling Memorials: Reckoning with Problematic Public Art in America.” Her lecture about confederate monuments will be in the Classroom Building, Room 310. Free.

Thursday, April 25, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO hosts open mic night with host Hunter Hicks in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, April 25, 7:30 p.m. -- UW’s Percussion Studio presents a spring percussion ensemble concert in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Free.

Thursday, April 25, 7:30 p.m. -- Master of Fine Arts students in the UW Creative Writing Program will give thesis readings at the UW Art Museum. Free.

Friday, April 26, 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.; and Sunday, April 28, 10 a.m. -- The UW rodeo team will host the 70th annual JCA Companies UW Rodeo Laramie River Rendezvous at UW’s Cliff and Martha Hansen Livestock Teaching Arena. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Friday, April 26, 1-6 p.m. -- As part of the Wyoming Undergraduate Research and Inquiry Across the Disciplines event, Computer Science Senior Design oral presentations will take place in the Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB), Room 255. Free.

Friday, April 26, 1:30 p.m. -- Phil Roberts, a UW professor emeritus of history and American studies, will give the 2019 Buchanan Lecture. He will discuss “14 Booms and 13 Busts: What We All Think We Know About Wyoming” in the Wyoming Union Center Ballroom. Free.

Friday, April 26, 4:10 p.m. -- West Chester University of Pennsylvania anthropologist Paul Stoller will give the 23rd annual William Mulloy Lecture. He will discuss “Slow Anthropology in a Fast World” in the UW College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Building auditorium. A reception will follow at 5:15 p.m. in the Department of Anthropology building. Free.

Friday, April 26, 6 p.m. -- The UW Billiard Club will host an 8-ball tournament open to the public in Pete’s Game Room in the Wyoming Union. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to support the Marna M. Kuehne Foundation Veterans Services Center.

Friday, April 26, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will host a pre-“Endgame” double feature in the Wyoming Union Family Room. “The Avengers” will play at 6:30 p.m., and “Avengers: Infinity War” will be at 9 p.m. Free.

Saturday, April 27, all day -- Undergraduate students from UW and Wyoming community colleges will give oral presentations or present posters during the Wyoming Undergraduate Research and Inquiry Across the Disciplines event. Computer Science Senior Design oral presentations are scheduled from 7:30 a.m.-noon and from 1:15-5 p.m. in the EERB. Other oral presentations are scheduled from 8 a.m.-noon in the Classroom Building. The poster session will take place from 1:15-3:15 p.m. on the second floor of the Wyoming Union. Free. Sunday, April 28, noon -- MILAAP, the Indian students’ organization at UW, will host the Indian Spring Fest in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Free.
