UWs Safe Zone to Host Training Session in Spanish May 2

The University of Wyoming’s Safe Zone will host its final training of the semester Thursday, May 2. The session will be conducted in Spanish, but anyone from the UW community is welcome to attend.

The training will take place in Room 315 of the Wyoming Union at 4 p.m. Food from Pita Pit will be provided.

“Safe Zone trainings allow students to learn about the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex and asexual or allied (LGBTQIA) community and discover something about themselves, education, collaboration and advocacy,” says Sarah Devine, the Campus Activities Center (CAC) marketing coordinator.

Safe Zone aims to create an inclusive environment for the LGBTQIA community through discussions about tolerance and acceptance. The program’s goal is to educate individuals on the issues facing the LGBTQIA community and to provide tools to become allies.

“Safe Zone at UW offers a variety of training sessions that cover topics from inequalities in the everyday lives of LGBTQIA individuals to health care issues specific to members of the LGBTQIA communities,” Devine says.
