University of Wyoming Department of Petroleum Engineering Assistant Professor Morteza Dejam has been honored as a 2019 Top Peer Reviewer in Publons’ Global Peer Review Awards.

The awards are presented by the Web of Science Group to a reviewer for placing in the top 1 percent of reviewers in the “cross-field” category of Publons’ global reviewer database.

The Top Peer Reviewer Award honors contributions to scholarly peer review and editorial pursuit internationally. Rankings are determined by the number of review reports performed during Publons’ 2018-19 award year. This designation represents an elite class of peer-review experts who are regularly relied upon by editors at high-quality, international journals to assess the quality and impact of research in their fields.

Dejam’s research areas involve theoretical and experimental studies of transport phenomena in porous media, with focuses on shear dispersion in double-porosity systems; block-to-block interaction processes in fractured porous media geological storage of carbon dioxide; fluid flow and transport in shale and tight rocks; phase equilibria of confined fluids in nanopores; and enhanced oil recovery in sandstone and carbonate formations. He has been a peer reviewer since May 2017 and contributed a total of 79 verified reviews during the award judging period.

According to its website, Publons was founded in 2012 to address the static state of peer-reviewing practices in scholarly communication, with a view to encourage collaboration and accelerate scientific development. Researchers from around the world use the website to track publications and citations metrics, view peer reviews and perform journal editing work. Over 4,600 experts across 101 countries and 2,331 institutions have been honored as world-class reviewers and editors.

Dejam earned a Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering/reservoirs from the Petroleum University of Technology in 2007. He then received his Master of Science from Sharif University of Technology in 2009 and a Ph.D. from the University of Calgary in 2016, in chemical engineering/hydrocarbon reservoirs and petroleum engineering, respectively.

He is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Regional Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty and the SPE Regional Reservoir Description and Dynamics Award.
