Registration Now Open for Inaugural UW Gingerbread House Decorating Contest

Online registration is now open for the inaugural University of Wyoming gingerbread house decorating contest.

The contest is open to any UW department or Laramie business. Forty team entries are available. To register, go to http://uw.uwyo.edu/holiday19. The deadline to register is Monday, Nov. 18.

The UW Alumni Association (UWAA) and the UW Foundation sponsor the contest.

“Join in the fun for what is sure to become one of the highlights of our holidays at UW,” says Mary Ivanoff, UW Foundation vice president for administration and donor relations.

The contest rules are:

-- All materials used to create and decorate gingerbread houses must be edible.

-- Glue may be used to attach decorations, if needed, and battery-operated lights are allowed.

-- It is recommended that contestants build their houses on plywood bases so that they can be moved easily. A base cannot exceed two feet by two feet.

Gingerbread houses must be dropped off at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center by noon Monday, Dec. 2. They will be on display there from Monday, Dec. 2-Friday, Dec. 6.

Voting will begin Monday, Dec. 2, during the UW Community Holiday Open House from 3:30-6 p.m. Voting will stay open through Friday, Dec. 6, at noon. The Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Only one vote per person will be allowed. The winning team will receive an engraved traveling trophy to keep in its department office or business for the year.
