Nominations Accepted for UW Spring Commencement Student Speakers

Two University of Wyoming graduating seniors and one doctoral graduate will be selected to speak during UW’s spring commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 16. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, March 20.

Continuing in the new tradition started in 2018, UW academic colleges will celebrate graduation in three combined commencement ceremonies, with two combined undergraduate ceremonies and one combined graduate event.

Nominations should be sent to UW commencement Coordinator Courtney Thomson-Lichty at studentaffairs@uwyo.edu. The nomineesʼ achievements should include:

-- Record of academic excellence.

-- Ability to write and speak effectively.

-- Demonstrated leadership in student organizations, student activities, public service or other activities that involve speaking to groups.

-- Representative of the best qualities of UW graduates.

Each nomination should indicate whether the student nominee is an undergraduate or graduate student. Nominators also should confirm that the student nominee is willing and able to participate as the commencement speaker.

A selection committee will meet to select top candidates. After finalists are chosen, the committee will request additional materials from finalists and arrange mock speeches or interviews as needed.
