UW Taps Helfgott as Interim AVP for Global Engagement

The chair of the University of Wyoming’s Department of History and American Studies has been named UW’s interim associate vice provost for global engagement.

Isadora Helfgott will oversee UW’s Global Engagement Office, created as part of UW’s strategic plan, “Breaking Through: 2017-2022,” which calls for expanded recruitment of international students and greater engagement of faculty and students in international education.

“Dr. Helfgott is stepping up to serve UW in a time of great change and will be a strong and steady leader to help us make our way through,” Interim Provost Anne Alexander says.

Helfgott received her A.M. and Ph.D. in history from Harvard University, and her B.A. in history, with a minor in art history, from Swarthmore College. Before coming to UW’s Department of History in 2009, she taught at Georgetown University and the University of Toronto.

UW’s Global Engagement Office includes the Education Abroad Office, formerly the Office of Study Abroad; the International Students and Scholars office; and the English Language Center.
