UWs Construction Management Program Takes First Step in National Accreditation

After a favorable recommendation, the University of Wyoming Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering’s Construction Management Program has received “candidate status” from the American Council of Construction Education (ACCE).

It’s the first step in a two-step process to gain national accreditation.

ACCE is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the accrediting agency for baccalaureate and associate degree programs in construction, construction science, construction management and construction technology located in North America and Australia. Its mission is to be a leading global advocate of quality construction education programs and to promote, support and accredit quality construction education programs.

An institution is allowed to remain in candidate status up to five years; however, UW’s Construction Management Program will have its on-site accreditation visit two years from now, during the spring of 2022, in support of its application for full accreditation status upon graduating its first senior class during the spring of 2022.

The Construction Management Program continues to see an increase in enrollment as well as course offerings, which has led the degree program to welcome its third full-time professor, Ahmed Abdelaty, in the coming fall semester.

“The UW Construction Management Program has experienced a phenomenal first year of enrollment, instruction and industry support from Wyoming construction associations and their members,” says Francois Jacobs, UW civil and architectural engineering and construction management associate professor. “I truly believe that the success of our program and its accreditation will have an impact on the economic well-being of Wyoming’s construction-related sectors at large.”
