United Way Seeks UW Employees Support

University of Wyoming employees can help meet the United Way of Albany County’s (UWAC) $150,000 campaign goal for UW when the annual campaign kicks off Friday, Sept. 11.

The overall campaign goal this year is $535,000 -- a $10,000 increase in last year’s goal. Donations will go to UWAC’s 17 local nonprofit agencies that provide food, clothing, health care and other services to those in need.

This year’s campaign co-chairs are Mary Burman, a professor emeritus in UW’s Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing, and her husband, Charlie DeWolf, a past president of the UWAC Board of Directors. They say giving to the United Way is more important now than ever in light of the challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and the state’s economic downturn.

“The health, education and financial needs of our community will grow substantially over the coming months,” the co-chairs say. “We are a generous community, and that generosity is more important now than ever. With all the uncertainty, you may think this is not the right time to donate. But, in fact, we can think of no time more important than now to give to UWAC. Gifts of any size make a difference.”

In 2019, UWAC’s partner agencies provided free meals to more than 280,000 people; safe shelter to almost 2,000 individuals/families; preschool and youth programming for more than 1,000 children; and free or reduced health care to nearly 2,000 community members.

This year’s campaign will run through Thanksgiving.
