A senior geologist with the University of Wyoming’s Enhanced Oil Recovery Institute has been named to the Governing Board of Wyoming’s Board of Professional Geologists.

Graeme Finley, who was appointed by Gov. Mark Gordon, has 20 years of geologic experience and has been a professional geologist for 14 years. He received his bachelor’s degree in geology from UW.

“Graeme Finley grew more both personally and professionally than anyone I have worked with during my career,” says Jimmy Goolsby, a geologist and member of the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. “I would like to think I had something to do with that growth, but he did it all himself. He is a credit to the profession, and I am proud to say I was his first professional employer.”

Finley has served on the Wyoming Geological Association Board from 2000-2012 in various capacities, including editor, vice president, president, field conference technical sessions chair, field conference chair and field conference committee member.

His areas of expertise include reservoir characterization, computer-enhanced geologic analysis, horizontal well planning and geosteering, and waterflood implementation and optimization. He has given expert testimony at Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission hearings.

Finley has worked for independent operators and as a consultant, and he has industry experience operating assets in Wyoming.

The mission of the Wyoming Board of Professional Geologists is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public by promoting the practice of geology by professional geologists, and by providing fair and balanced regulation of the geologic profession.

The board’s regulatory responsibility includes the discipline of professional geologists licensed in Wyoming, as well as seeking the prosecution of unlicensed persons who violate the Wyoming Geologists Practice Act.
