The University of Wyoming Wind Symphony will present “Celebration” Thursday, Nov. 11, as part of the Department of Music’s Spotlight Series. The program is at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets are $12 for the public; $8 for senior citizens; $6 for students not attending UW; and free to UW students with a “W” number. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts. The concert also will livestream at https://youtu.be/lIT8qRnQEPk.

“We have so much to be thankful for as we return to almost normal concert opportunities,” UW Wind Symphony Conductor Robert Belser says.

The concert program opens with a new overture titled “Celebration” by Emmy Award-winning film and television composer Bruce Broughton, noted for his score to the Western film “Silverado.” Following is Darius Milhaud’s 1945 work “Suite Française,” an extended work for winds named after the five French provinces where Allied forces fought together during World War II.

The UW Wind Symphony will celebrate with Pulitzer Prize winner Karel Husa’s fast-paced soundscape, “Cheetah,” a contemporary work representing the mysterious cat and its noted speed, as well as Leonard Bernstein and Jerome Robbins’ “Danzon,” from the ballet “Fancy Free.”

Rounding out the evening’s program will be Aaron Perrine’s “Only Light” and Carolyn Bremer’s “Early Light.”

“As you have joy in hearing music live, we, as musicians, are even more thrilled in experiencing sharing music with you and one another,” Belser says. “Let us all find reason to celebrate.”

For more detailed information about the concert lineup and music, go to the UW Department of Music’s “Upcoming Performances webpage, locate the “Spotlight Series: UW Wind Symphony Presents ‘Celebration’” concert, and click on “Get the Program” link.
