A send-off recital in anticipation of the Department of Music’s Helios Piano Trio’s Carnegie Hall performance will be Sunday, Feb. 27, at the University of Wyoming.

The trio’s free public performance at 3 p.m. in the UW Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall will feature the same repertoire as the UW musicians’ March 1 recital in New York City’s famed concert hall. The program will feature “The Spirit and the Maiden” by Australian pianist-composer Elena Kats-Chernin; Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49 by Felix Mendelssohn; and “Piano Trio” by Maurice Ravel.

Helios members are UW Department of Music faculty members John Fadial, violin; Beth Vanderborgh, cello; and Chi-Chen Wu, piano, whose rich and diverse backgrounds come together to produce probing and passionate interpretations of the great piano trio repertoire and have attracted international acclaim.

In recent years, Helios Piano Trio has performed and taught across the United States, including concerts and workshops in Denver, Colo.; Omaha, Neb.; Greensboro, N.C.; and Boston, Mass., as well as internationally in France, Italy and China. The Helios Trio was the single U.S. representative ensemble invited to perform at the International Debussy Centennial Conference in Oviedo, Spain, in 2018.

At home in Wyoming, Fadial, Vanderborgh and Wu are dedicated to education and building audiences for the future. They are highly involved in musical outreach, bringing great music to rural areas and into schools throughout Wyoming.
