Canyon Hardesty, an associate director of the Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND) at the University of Wyoming, is the recipient of the 2022 Peter K. Simpson Advanced Practice Nursing Fan Award.

The UW Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing will present the award to Hardesty Wednesday, April 20, at the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program’s annual Willow Ceremony, an annual event that recognizes nurse practitioners and UW nurse practitioner students. The award honors an individual for commitment to the DNP Program, its faculty and students.

“Hardesty is truly one of Wyoming’s biggest supporters of advanced practice nursing and nurse practitioners,” says Ann Marie Hart, DNP Program director. “From my years of working alongside Canyon on various endeavors, it is evident that she respects nurse practitioners and values the unique contributions they bring to primary and mental health care.”

Hardesty has supported UW’s DNP Program in numerous ways, such as working with DNP faculty on several Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) programs; serving on nurse practitioner faculty search committees; seeking and securing graduate assistantships for DNP students through the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities program; and collaborating with DNP faculty on a peer-reviewed publication.

“Hardesty is indeed a treasured fan of UW’s DNP Program,” Hart says.

The award is named after Peter Simpson, a longtime supporter of the DNP Program and member of the Wyoming Simpson political family. He has served UW in multiple roles, including as UW vice president of development, executive director of the UW Foundation and UW vice president for institutional advancement.
