UW’s Community Band, Symphonic Band to Perform May 2

The University of Wyoming’s Community Band and Symphonic Band will present their joint spring concert Monday, May 2. 

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Robert Belser, a professor in the UW Department of Music, will conduct the UW Community Band. Joseph Carver, a UW assistant professor of music, and Amber Sturdevant, a UW McMurry graduate teaching assistant from Gillette, will conduct the UW Symphonic Band. 

Tickets are $10 for the public; $7 for senior citizens; $6 for students not attending UW; and free to UW students with a “W” number. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts

The program will feature a mix of new tunes, marches and a few classics. 

The UW Community Band will perform “American Flourish” by Robert Smith; “Chorale and Shaker Dance” by John Zdechlik; “Blues for a Killed Kat” by Jack End, edited by Frederick Fennell; “Pirates of the Caribbean” by Klaus Badelt, arranged by John Wasson; and “Washington Post March” by John Philip Sousa. 

The UW Symphonic Band will present “English Folk Song Suite” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; “Alligator Alley” by Michael Daugherty; “Ammerland” by Jacob de Haan; “Foundry” by John Mackey; “Illumination” by David Maslanka; and “Symphonic Suite from Star Wars: The Force Awakens” by John Williams, arranged by Jay Bocook.
