UWs Snowy Range Summer Theatre Opens With Charlie Brown Musical

The University of Wyoming’s Snowy Range Summer Theatre opens its 69th season with “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

Presented by the UW Department of Theatre and Dance, “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” will run June 9-12 and June 15-19 at 7:30 p.m. and June 11, 18 and 19 at 2 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Thrust Theatre. UW musical theater faculty member Sean Stone is the director.

Tickets are $14 for the public; $11 for senior citizens; and $7 for students and children over 5. Family pack discounts are available. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

“As the Snowy Range Summer Theatre enters its 69th season, we are proud to focus this summer on fun, family and funkiness,” says Jason Banks, artistic director and a UW assistant lecturer.

With charm, wit and heart, “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” explores life’s great questions through the eyes of the title character and his friends as they play baseball, struggle with homework, sing songs, swoon over crushes and celebrate the joy of friendship.

First performed in 1967, with a Tony Award-winning update in 1999, this revue of songs and vignettes based on the beloved Charles Schulz comic strip has book, music and lyrics by Clark Gesner; additional dialogue by Michael Mayer; and additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. Musical numbers include “My Blanket and Me,” “The Kite,” “The Baseball Game,” “Little Known Facts,” “Suppertime” and “Happiness.”

“As we return full force to the stage this summer, our first offering reminds us all how to be young and happy,” Banks says. “This show is great for audiences of all ages, whether young or just young at heart.”

The summer theater season will continue in late June and early July with two shows running in repertory: Jeffrey Hatcher’s “Murderers,” a how-did-they-do-it comedy set in a Florida retirement village, and Samuel Beckett’s “Happy Day,” a classic tragicomedy about the inertia of modern life.

UW’s Snowy Range Summer Theatre is the second-oldest summer theater program west of the Mississippi. This year’s company consists of several students from the UW Department of Theatre and Dance, as well as guest artists, technicians and managers from all over the country.

“We are honored to be back on the stage and able to present high-quality entertainment for our patrons -- new and old,” Banks says.
