UW-Led Dementia Care Program Continues With Virtual Presentation March 8

It can be challenging to care for a person living with dementia, but there are ways to prepare for what could happen along that journey.

That will be the message of Amy Shaw, a physician assistant at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care program, during her presentation titled “What Matters Most Across the Dementia Journey.” The free public program will be presented at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, via Zoom. The program is part of the Wyoming Dementia Together (WDT) program. WDT is a statewide, nonprofit caregiver network operating through the University of Wyoming Center on Aging (WyCOA).

Shaw will share her insights on what the caregiver can prepare for, from initial diagnosis throughout the progression of the illness.

“This can be such a daunting responsibility for the caregiver,” she says. “We will begin with the basics, helping the caregiver identify priorities. We will discuss the physical and emotional changes that may occur in the loved one -- and ways the caregiver can preserve energy and reduce stress levels in their daily lives.”

WDT meets throughout the year by Zoom every other Wednesday. Programs feature a guest speaker and allow time for interactive discussion among those who attend online from throughout Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain region.

For information about registering for Zoom calls and the other free services offered by WDT, call WyCOA at (307) 766-2829 or email wycoa@uwyo.edu.
