UW in the News


April 29, 2013 — State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles where UW is making the news.

Bloomberg Business Week was among sites that carried UW’s release about a new enter for Law and Energy Resources in the Rockies being established at the UW College of Law.

The Casper Star-Tribune carried UW’s release about the discovery of a vast new lithium resource near Rock Springs by the Carbon Management Institute. The discovery could produce enough money to offset the cost of creating the CO2 storage space underground and may create a new industry for Wyoming. Dozens of Web and media outlets, including Treehugger, carried the story.

UW Computer Science Professor Jeff Clune participated in a study that uses algorithms to visualize virtual creatures. The study was published in several science sites, including Discover and Science Daily.

KOWB Radio posted a story on its website about a summer workshop, hosted by the University of Wyoming and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), designed to teach statistics at the high school and college levels in a way that focuses on using practical applications. USA Education News posted UW’s release on the subject.

The Riverton Ranger reported that John Nutter, the former assistant to the vice president of student affairs at UW, was recognized for his work administering two scholarships for students from the Wind River Indian Reservation.

County 10, Fremont County’s online news site, noted that former UW Trustee James Trosper spoke during recent Earth Day activities on campus.

The Associated Press distributed to its affiliates UW’s announcement that three Miss Wyomings will speak at this year’s College of Health Sciences commencement ceremony.

The Associated Press also carried UW’s release about Molecular Biology Professor Don Jarvis’ selection to receive the George Duke Humphrey Distinguished Faculty Award.

Ricki Klages, head of the UW Department of Art, is quoted in a Billing Gazette article about the Wyoming State High School Art Symposium.

UW History Professor Phil Roberts is quoted in a Casper Star Tribune story about Arbor Day plantings.

UW’s new bass fishing team members were featured in a Laramie Boomerang article.
