State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles where UW is making the news.

A story about Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory investigations into the causes of a fatal dog disease was disseminated by the Associated Press, and carried by the Houston Chronicle and numerous other media outlets.

Jeffrey Beck, an associate professor of ecosystem science and management at UW, was quoted in an Associated Press story about the effects of energy development on elk.

The Casper Star-Tribune picked up UW’s release announcing Department of English Lecturer Nina McConigley’s PEN Open Book Award.

UW Faculty Senate Chair Ed Janak wrote a guest editorial that appeared in the Casper Star-Tribune.

The web-based science and research news site, Phys.Org, described new advances in robotics developed by UW Computer Science Professor Jeff Clune and colleagues.

The technology news website ITPROportal.com quotes UW College of Education Public Relations Coordinator Debra Beck in an article about using Twitter in the classroom.

UW Political Science Professor Jim King is quoted in an article on the website, Governing, that analyzes Wyoming’s political races.

The status of various major construction projects on the UW campus was summarized in a report by Sheridan Media.com, the website for a group of radio stations covering northeast Wyoming.

UW Professor Mark Gomelsky’s research work on engineered proteins that can be activated by near-infrared light was a feature story in The Laramie Boomerang. Also in The Boomerang, developers are moving ahead with plans for new construction projects at the University Plaza.

UW Students’ Attorney Elizabeth Goudey is quoted in a Laramie Boomerang article about housing rentals in Laramie.

The Gillette News-Record and SweetwaterNow carried UW’s story on research of Paleoindian culture at Hell Gap.

Leigh Selting, a professor in the UW Department of Theatre and Dance, directs the popular musical “Mary Poppins” in performances in Helena, Mont., according to the city’s newspaper, the Independent Record.

Wyoming Public Media noted that UW’s Dario Grana recently received the Petroleum Engineering Junior Faculty Research Initiation Fellowship Award from the Society for Petroleum Engineering.

Construction plans for a new UW engineering building and the High Bay Research Facility were approved when Gov. Matt Mead released money for the buildings, according to The Riverton Ranger.
